The sanctuary is home to four bird species that are nationally threatened: the Indian Reef Heron, Glossy Ibis, Sri Lankan Jungle Fowl, and

 

Black-capped Purple Kingfisher. Among these, the Jungle Fowl is the only species that is endemic to the area.
