Reasons to embrace
Kalametiya is a lesser known sanctuary in southern Sri Lanka.
Gain a unique chance to engage with the local community and gain insights into their way of life and their harmonious coexistence with the surrounding plant and animal life.
The sanctuary is home to four bird species that are nationally threatened: the Indian Reef Heron, Glossy Ibis, Sri Lankan Jungle Fowl, and
Black-capped Purple Kingfisher. Among these, the Jungle Fowl is the only species that is endemic to the area.
